TE AROHA HORSES.
MtTNGATOON'S PROSPECTS
MAZIR DOING WELL.
The Musketoon filly Libra is all the better for her run in the Ohaupo Handicap at the Waipa meeting. Apparently she was not suited to the turning track, but the education should serve her in good stead. So far she has not run up to her track gallops, but may soon strike form.
Mazir is looking well since his Cup effort at Te Awamutu. Being a very smooth runner, he was not suited to the restraint in the early stages of the race, but on a more roomy track, with the pace well on, the Whirlwind gelding can be expected to do better.
Her racing at the Waipa meeting has improved Gay Rose, who is now settling down in her track work in a manner denoting a return to form.. Last year- she gave promise of being a stayer, and this may be emphasised during the .summer and later in the autumn.
The success of the Musketoon—Caviare mare Eona Bay in the south is of interest to Te Aroha sportsmen, as she was trained there for a lengthy period last season. It is worthy of note that both the sire atd dam are owned by Mr. K. B. Hines, who has among this tseaaon s foala a sturdy colt by King Lu from Caviare.
Consequent upon receiving a kick Jast Thursday week Pei-Mah could not be tauten over to the Waipa meeting and was 011 the easy list for a few days. He will be none the worse for the brief respite from track work and is expected to strike winning form very shortly. King Brierly, in the same stable, is at last showing signs of improvement, and unless he is handicapped by repeated interruptions will be cariying Mr. 11. B. Hines' colours lor the balance of the season. Although well loaded with 12.4 over two miles in the Grafton Hurdles, it is intended that Val Watch will line up with the field on Boxing Day. Her really superior condition will be in her favoiir. The two recent wins of Keith Lu go to prove that the King Lu gelding is now racing more solidly than earlier in the season ancl his "track work lately is ceitainly more consistent. His running points to an early comeback by Bonnie Song, as in company with him on the tracks the Hunting Song mare finishes 011 well, even when the pace is solid. ... It is expected the Acre —Lady laithful gelding Ekanui will be competing at the Thames meeting. He possesses pace, but it is open to doubt whether lie will handle the 1 turns at the Parawai course, for lie is of the big type, and has only been worked om roomy tracks. Appearances go to support the idea tliat Mungatoon "will be landed at the post toy the Auckland Cup in good order. Jrlis work on the tracks has been of the really consistent nature, and although he has been registering good times has not been ridden out. In his work he carries from 8 7 to 9 4 repeatedly and will nnd his Auckland allotment (7.1) a much easier The preparation of Pirate King has been interrupted, owing to the King Lu gelding having wrenched a foreleg. The trouble has been successfully treated and track work will soon be resumed.
