SOME SMART SPRINTS,
DIATOMOUS AND PLATO IMPRESS,
With the exception of a light misty rain about half-way through the work, before the breakfast interval, the weather was fine for training at Ellerslie this morning. The course proper, with the poles uot'r, out from the rails, was used and some smart efforts were recorded, those to please most among the Cup horses being Kelly, Gay Broney, Argentic and Kiltowyn, while among the sprinters Diatomous, Plato, Fracas, Koyal Secret and Legatee impressed most. The going was excellent. The Course Proper. Tmpasto was the first to work, and with a good weight up, reeled off six furlongs in 1 9.0 4-5. He finished on well. Variant and'lL'er stable mate Roaming went off slowly from the seven-furlong post and ran hoive in 1.36. They increased the pace from the five-furlong post to run their last half-mile in 53 2-ss, with Variant doing the better at the finish, lleetwind was timed to run the last five furlongs of her work in 1.8. Heritage (Gilmour) finished well clear of Gay Marigold (Wiggins) after traversing seven furlongs in 132 3-5, the last six being covered in 110 4-5. Heritage put plenty, of dash into his work. Supreme Ruler finished up a useful task by running his last half-mile in 545. Entail (Rayner) came home from the five-furlong post in 1.6 4-5, the last three taking 40 4-ss. This three-year-old is looking much better than he did when he was here in the spring. Pasha was not doing his best at any part of six furlongs, which he ran in 1.24 3-5. The Railway Handicap candidate Plato had Kotou "as a companion over six furlongs, which occupied 1.18. This was the best of the morning over the distance, and Plato did his work impressively. Ked Flame was given serviceable work, averaging about 15s to the furlong. Ringshot and Professional finished well in front ot Imamint at the end of five furlongs in 1 7 0-5 The first-named pair shaped nicely for novices. Rereatu (Gilchrist) sprinted five furlongs in 1.5. He was running on solidly at the end.
Cup Horses' Trial. The stable mates, Sir Abb and Tidalia, finished on terms at the conclusion of six furlongs in 1.20, the last half-mile taking 52 2-ss. Tidalia is in great order for lier engagements at the coming meeting. Cranlord (Parsons) got to the end of five furlongs in 1.6 1-5. The Cup candidates, Kelly (Gilchrist), Senior (Ihomson), Tybalt (McTavish) and Vanestep (Wiggins), were associated over a, mile and a quarter, which took 2.16 2-5, the last round being covered in 2.6 1-5. They ran the last seven furlongs in 1.32. Kelly was in front practically all the way and finished _a couple of lengths ahead of \ anestep "and Senior, who were together in front of Tybalt. Kelly, as usual, carried a light weight, but he was on the outside and very wide out at times. On 1 arade I went away from the mile po6t and came home in 1.47 4-5. He carried a good weight and it was a useful performance. Hest was striding out very freely at .the conclusion of half a mile in 52 3-js. J.ne daughter of Hunting Song is a very luce mover and should get some money at the meeting. Valspear worked lazily over five furlongs, which took 1.7 2-5, time which he could have reduced, considerably. After running her first two furlongs in 24 4-ss, Fracas was going on strongly at the end of seven furlongs, which she covered in 1.32 3-5. This filly dropped out of the Cup, but remains in. the Christmas Handicap and should run prominently. Small Boy finished in front of Killadar after traversing five furlongs in 1.6 3-5, the first two taking 25 l-ss. Karl and Wagner beat Mazzmi at the finish of five furlongs, which occupied 1.6 2-5, the first two taking 24 2-ss. Karl and Wagner both did their work smoothly. The hest half-mile of the morning was credited to Royal Secret, who ran the distance in 50 2-ss. She was kicked out at the finish, but still it was a smart effort. After schooling King Mestor and Tea Chat were allotted strong work over seven furlongs, taking 1.38 to complete the task. Solas was given an easy five furlongs, completed in 1-11 3-5. Gay Broney (McTavish). and Vera Acre (Sergeant) were companions over a mile and a quartei, being joined at the mile post by Argentic (Wiggins). The full distance took 2.16 3-o, and the final round 2.7 1-5, the last sfeveu furlongs being covered in 1.34 l-o. Argentic was only timed over the latter distance, Gay Broney and Vera Acre were just in front of Argentic at tile finish, but the last-named was going well within liilmsen. and could have done better. T<? Broney was too good for Te Kapia over seven furlongs in 1.38. The Southern two-year-olds Wild Chase and Pelmet, were associated over half a mile run in 5o lfs. Wild i Chase was going the better of the pair at the end. After running the first four furlongs in 51 3-ss, Bunfight registered 1.3J for seven furlongs. Royal Appellant and Teddy Boy were on terms after traversing seven furlongs in 1.37. Royal Appellant was doing niceiy at the end. Moquette was just in front of Gay Chief at the conclusion of half a mile in 52 2 J 5s. Jtloquettc did her work well, but Gay Chief wm being kicked up at the finish. The Kail; ; way Handicap candidate Diatomous went attractively over five furlongs, which he completed in 1.4 1-5, the last half mj' e taking 51 l-oe. It was the best of the morning over the distance, and he had nothing" in reserve at the finish. The Southern three-year-old Lady Graceful was responsible for a pleasing effort over seven furlongs, running the distance in 1.32 4-s. She covered the first half mile in 52 l-ss, and was staying on particularly well at the end. Kiltowy n worked alone over a mile, and, after running the first half in 51 2-ss, finished up his task in 1.45 4-5. It was a useful effort, and he could have reduced the time. Persian Lady was going comfortably throughout five furlongs which occupied 1.11 3-5. Spiral beat .Greek Shepherd over seven furlongs m 1.34 2-5, the first half-mile being covered in 535. Spiral was putting-plenty of dash into his work at the end Shu Goes Well. Oorroboree was not extended at any part of seven furlongs, which he completed in 1.36 2-5, the first half mile taking 53 3-os. The two-year-old Master Vaals finished in front of Free Advice at the end of half-a-mile iri 53 3-ss. Over a similar distance Golden / Blonde proved too good for Abbess of Whitby in 51 2-Ss. Big Dook trotted round to the half-mile post, and rail home in 52 3-ss. He was not kicked out at any part of it. After running his first two furlongs in 25 4-ss, Shu was timed to complete five furlongs in 1.7. Although he was ridden out at the finish it was a good performance, as lie Is a particularly lazy track worker. Silver Streak reeled off half a mile in 51 2-ss. 'He did his work very evenly, and looks a fit horse. After traversing his first two furlongs in 255, Legatee got to the end of five in 1.4 3-o, time which was only beaten once during the morning. This three-year-old is a very bold galloper. Nigger Kill got to the end of five furlongs in 1.10 1-5, covering the last half-mile in 52 2-5. Valmmt gave Gemland several lengths' . start at the seven-furlong post, and beat her very easily, being timed to run his last six furloEgs in 1.23. United finished in front of King Spear at the end of five furlongs in 1.8." The Jumpers. Tea Chat (Sharkey) jumped a couple of hurdles safely, while King Mestor (Bakery went over four. ' He jumped rather high at some of the obstacles.
