WORKERS' CHRISTMAS.

ONE TREE HILL SYMPATHY,

TWO WEEKS ON FULL PAY.

The One Tree Hill Borough Council last night decided to adopt the suggestion of the Unemployment Board in regard to the Christmas holidays of certain relief workers. The scheme provided that holidays would be of two weeks on full pay, from December 28 to January 4. The town clerk reported that on the basis of 20 men the total subsidised wages for the two holiday weeks would be £153, of which the Unemployment Board would find £70, leaving a balance of £83 to be provided by the council. In addition to the two weeks' holiday, scheme 5 men would receive a special grant equivalent to one week's relief. The Mayor, Mr. I. J. Goldstine, moved that the board's recommendations be accepted. "I think that the council should do it," he said. "We can do it, and —"

"Why not do it?" finished Mr. M. <T, Hooper.
