SUNDAY CONCERTS.
« MOUNT EDEN DECISION. ATTITUDE APPRECIATED. Appreciation of the decision of the Mount Eden Borough Council not to permit the holding of Sunday concerts in the theatres of the borough was , expressed in two letters which were read at last night's meeting of the council. One letter was from the New Zealand Federated Theatrical and Places of Amusement Industrial Association of Workers thanking and congratulating tho council on the attitude it had taken up, and suggested that Good Friday, Christinas Day and Anzac Day be addedto the list. The Rev. A. E. Prcbble, of St. Barnabas' Church, forwarded a letter expressing the appreciation of the vestry and parishioners on the firm, attitude taken by tho council on the question of Sunday concerts in tho theatres in the borough. "Wβ are living in an age when blatant indifference to tho serious things in the life of mankind is a positive curse, and it is most refreshing to us clergy, as I am sure it is to all church people, to know that there are public bodies who are prepared to stand up for what is right," added the writer. Mr. E. E. Greenfield said he would like to make it clear that his opposition to Sunday concerts was not because of any religious scruples, but because he considered that staffs should not be asked to work on seven days of the week.
