POSITION DEFINED.
NO-CONFIDENCE VOTE. SAVINGS BANK DEPOSITS. Asked what would be the position in the event of a "run" on the Post Ollico Savings Bank, Mr. VV. J. H. Clark, Democrat candidate for Auckland Suburbs, stated at his New Lynn meeting last night that probably only a dozen in each queue would be satisiied. "Then tho Government would have to use Reserve Bank notes?" queried the member of the audience. "There would be tho other alternative of closing down," said Mr. Clark. "You are trying to be a bit funny,' said the auditor. "Wouid you not have to use paper money to meet the liability?" asked another elector. The candidate: That might bo a possibility. I am not going to say '•yes" or "no." A Voice: You don't know as much about finance as I thought you did. The candidate spoke for about an hour and a quarter and received a patien» hearing from an audience of about 200, but for. about an hour afterwards he was bombarded with questions on finance, unemployment and many other topics. After reciting the Democrat policy the candidate said that as ho was sure to be asked how he would vote on a no confidence motion he would give his view beforehand. In the event of such a motion being proposed by the Labour party the Democrats would go into che lobby to vote the Government out. lu the event of the Governor-General extending an invitation to the Leader of the Labour party to form an administration a vote of no confidence would bo moved against the new Government as soon as it met the House and the Democrats would then vote against the Labour party. A Voice: Oh, you twister. Another Voice: You won't'be there. A Third Voice: You run with the hare and hunt with the hounds. A Fourth Voice: Like Paddy with the rent (laughter). Mr. Clark: We will remove the Government from the Treasury Bench ss and we will not permit the Labour Party to got into office. At the conclusion an auditor proposed a vote of thanks in the candidate. "I respect him," he said, "but I have no confidence in him." The chairman (Mr. S. George): 1 take that as a motion of thanks to the candidate. This was carried.
