Valspear Scores in Trial. i ~~ A largo field of 21 went to the barrier for the Trial Stakes, and most money was invested upon the chances of Gloucester, Supreme Court and Torch. Sweet Musk lost a lot of ground at the start, and the first to show out were Teak, Brilliant Acre, Little Artist and Gloucester. Valspear then ran through to the front and led across the top from Gloucester, Little Artist, Dark Shadow, Brilliant Acre, Teak and Karohia. There was little change into the straight, and Valspear went on to win by two lengths from Little Artist, with Teak a neck away third. Jan Kidd was fourth, then cnnio Fei-Mah, Gloucester, The Vamp, Supreme Court and Race Whip. Three on End. Five withdrawals from the Waimai Hurdles reduced the field to ten, and most support was accorded Lrination, Greek Gold, Travelling Agent and Merry Lap. The lastnamed won, and thu* recorded his third success on end, having won a "double at the recent Whangarei meeting. Nigger Bill was first out, but fell at the first fence, and the order past the stands was Greek Gold, Sweet Lap, Erination, Sub Editor, Lord Val, King's Archer, and Travelling Agent. Erination moved up at this stage and joined Greek Gold in the lead, this pair showing tho way along the bactc to Sweot Lap, Lord Val, Sub Editor and Merry Lap.
