BUS TRANSPORT.
IMPROVEMENT IN SERVICE.
The inauguration next Monday of an omnibus service around Riddell Road, Glendowie, serving Vaie Road, Bay Road and Long Drive, marking another step in the progress of the Tamaki district, will also mark, within two days, the twentieth anniversary of the motor bus service to St. Helier's. This was commenced by Mr. L. J. Keys on November 20,1915, with a bus seating 15 passengers, which made four trips each way daily between St. Helier's and Remuera tram terminus, then at Upland Road. The service now employs a fleet of modern 33 and 35-seaters, the latest of which are three Diesel-engined buses. Nearly ten million passengers have been carried over a distance of mofe than 4J million miles. Coincident with a further reduction in the longer distance concession fares, an amended timetable, providing for a number of additional trips on the CitySt. Helier's service and a consistent timetable on both the St. Thomas' and Kohimarama Beach routes on all days of the week, will come into force next Sunday.
