WORKLESS WOMEN.
MAYOR LAUNCHES INQUIRY. REGISTER TO BE OPENED. To ascertain the number of unemployed women and girls in tho Auckland metropolitan area, with a view to obtaining relief for them, tho Mayor, Mr. Ernest Diivis, is arranging for a temporarv register to be opened at the Town Hall. "So that I may be in a position to consider what remedial action may bo necessary or desirable, I wish to ascertain, if possible, the extent of unemployment among women and girls, a largo deputation that waited on me yesterday having informed me that there is a greater degree of distress than is generally realised," stated Mr. Davia, "Accordingly I propose to open at an early date a register at the Town Hall, and to invite those worklcss women and girls who depend for their livelihood on their own efforts to enter their names. A simple registration form is now beingdrafted, which may be filled in either personally at the public office of the Town Hall or may be obtained on application in writing to the same address. Naturally the information so supplied will bo treated ae strictly confidential, and I would appeal to all who are in this position to register, as it will be in their own interest to do so."
