HOLLOWE'EN PARTY.
ST. LUKE'S PARISHIONERS. An enjoyable Hallowe'en party was organised by members of St. Luke's Ladies' Guild and the men's committee last evening, in aid of the furnishings for the church. The function, which had been postponed from Hallowe'en Eve because of the unfavourable weather, was held in the lovely garden of Mr. and Mrs. Elon Bond's home in Remuera Road. On arrival the guests were met by ghostly figures and led through the terraced garden, which was iloodlit for the occasion. In the upper garden the guests were met by witches in voluminous garments of black and red, ajid by other figures appropriate to the season. Much interest was taken in a post office set up in the grounds, where guests could hand in telegrams and have them delivered to their friends who were present by means of small persons dressed as black cats and witches. A ■short talk on the customs and traditions of Hallowe'en, as observed in Scotland, was given by Mr. D. McCrone, and a Hallowe'en play, produced by Mr. S. M. Yallop, was acted by Mrs. E. Lovell, Misses L. Munro, M. Toung, K. Davics, Mr. S. Mandeno, and Mr. Yallop. Great interest was created by the side-shows, which included a soothsayer's tent, a witch's cauldron, a magician's cave, a gymnastic display, table bowls and tennis. Those in chage of the side-shows and stalls were:—Magician's tent, Mr. R. G. Sellar; spooks' gallery, Mr. Knight and Mr. H. Reynolds; postmaster, Mr. C. H. Furness; witches' supper, Mrs. C. H.
