GOVERNMENT GRANTS.
AGITATION FOR HYGIENIC BATHS
The following notices of motion have been given for a special general meeting ' of the Auckland Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association, on| Monday, November 18: —"Realising that] swimming is a subject on the educational syllabus and that it is generally accepted that the Government should do something further to encourage the natatorial education of all children, thie special general meeting of the Auckland Centre N.Z.A.S.A. considers that: (1) The time is opportune for the Government to revert to its former policy of making an annual grant for swimming education work among the children of the schools; (2) We also urge that in the forthcoming elections all candidates be prevailed upon to give serious thought and attention to the matter of encouraging and facilitating arrangements for the provision of hygienic swimming bathe in order that compulsory swimming under the direction of the schools may be freed from any possibility of contamination." "This meeting is in favour of representatives being sent to the British Empire Games to be held in Australia in 1938, and considers it inadvisable to send representatives to the Olympic Games at Berlin."
