ELLERSLIE TRACK.
WAIKATO CANDIDATES. SEVERAL USEFUL EFFORTS. N"o. 3 grass track was available for fast work at Ellerslie this morning, and as a result of the recent rain the going was cutting out a bit, and was against fast times. The best efforts of the morning were credited to Valspear, Sir Abb, Baroscope, Professional, Whirhnint and Supreme Ruler. Tybalt, who will not be raced at the Waikato meeting, was let off with an easy task, running five furlongs in 1.12 3-5. Kelly was in front of Imamint at the conclusion of a similar distance in 1.4 4-5. Both these horses are to fulfil their engegemente in the Waikato Cup on Saturday. Ringshot was given useful work, but was not after "time. On Parade, after commencing slowly' over a round, traversed ihis last seven furlongs in 1.44 1-5. Etcetera was allotted strong work, averaging a shade .under 15s to the furlong. Marlene, the four-year-old filly "by Roinuey from Takahau, shaped nicely while running half a mile in 54 3-os. It was her first test over the distance. Tray Bit and Rereatu, after running 'their first two furlongs'in 23 2-ss, finished in front of Paisha'at the end of five furlpngs, which took 14 1-5. It was the best of the morning over the distance,- and the first-named pair did their work in good style. Red Flame was going comfortably to complete six furlongs in 1.24. This filly is an unlikely starter at Te Rapa. Professional and Whirhnint were about on terms at the end of half a mile in 525. This time was not bettered during the morning. Psychologist travereed the last seven furlongs of a round in 1.35, and Royal Appellant strode home from the half-mile post in 595. This horse looks none the worse for his racing at Whangarei. One of the best six-furlong efforts was registered by Valspear and Wir Abb, with Hunting Maid right up with them at the finish. Their time was 1.19, and Valspear, who got slightly the better of the atari/ ran his first three furlongs in 38 3-ss. Fleetwind was given an easy half-mile, which she covered in 54 4-ss, the last three furlongs taking 41 l-ss. Vera Acra traversed a round in 1.45, the last seven furlongs being covered in 1.35 2-5. This mare is now looking better than ever she has done. Autocracy, a two-yearrbld gelding by Vaals from Independence, ran homo from the half-mile post in 56 4-5«. Hβ was not bustled, but handled himself well. Gay Broney, looking improved as a result of his racing at Whangarei, covered a round in 1.50 4-5. He was speeded up over the last six furlongs in 1.23. \ This horse is in great heart for his engagement in the Waikato Cup. Supreme Ruler beat Chief Emerald by several lengths at the end of half a mile, which he covered in 52s —one of the best efforts 6f the morning. Te Broney was going nicely at the conclusion of five furlongs, which she traversed in 1.7 4.-5. 'Gay Defence was going "easily to coyer half a mile in 545, arid Persian' Lady strode over six furlongs in T. 27 4-5." '.•■... After Breakfast. Vannere. was no.t hurried to run the last three furlongs of-her work in 44 2-ss. Captain Bruce, who recently returned from Australia, completed a similar task in 42 3-ss, doing it nicely. United beat a novice over three furlongs in 41s. Over a similar distance Marjory Daw recorded 39 l-ss. ■ She handled the going exceptionally well. Baroscope and Jewelled Girdle, after running their first three furlongs in. 38 2*ss, got to the end of six furlongs in 1.19. Baroscope finished in 'front, and Primak, who accompanied them over the last five furlongs, was a couple of lengths away, his time for that distance being 1.6 3-5." Mountain Bruce covered Half a mile in 57 4-ss, but could have done better." King Spear finished in front of Haputale and Docility over three furlongs, which took 40 3-ss.
The Jumpers. Black Marlin (T. Williams) and Lord Val (Fergus) gave a fast and clean display over four hurdles in the centre.
