COSTUME CONCERT.
SOCIETY OF MUSICIANS. The final of the series of concerts presented monthly by the Auckland Society of Musicians was held last evening before a large attendance of members and their friends in the Overseas Clubrooms. This took the form or a "costume concert" and an interesting programme was presented. Miss Berta Cavr, appropriately dressed in a striking national costume, gave an outstanding rendition of two Russian songs, "The Soldier's Wife" (Raehnianinofi) and "Vanka" (a Russian folk song). The eolo "One fine day" ("Madame Butterfly") was given pleasingly by Miss Winifred Hill, who also combined most effectively with Mies Beryl Smith in the "Flower Duet" from the same opera. Mr. Dennis, Johns pleased the audience with hie recitation of Kipling's "The Explorer" and vyas recalled to give "How." A m&s; amusing ecena, "The King's Breakfast" (A. A. Milne and Fraser Simeon), was well presented by Mise Amy Haneard (the Queen), Mr. Edward Churchhouec (the King) and Mies Mary Murphy (the Dairymaid). Madame Amy Milburn gave a. smooth and sustained performance of "Elsa's Dream" ("Lohengrin"). Miss P. Munro was effective in her violin solo, "Fantasie Tziganeeque" (Hubay). A pleasing vocalisation of the aria "Indian Bell Souk" ("Lakme") was given by Miss Patricia McLeod. Madame Aileen Johns, attired in a very effective drese of the Tudor period, sang three Elizabethan songs, "What if I Seek for Love," "Phillis was a Faire Maide" and "Fairc, S\yeet, Cruell," with her usual artistry. Miss Olive Javvie very successfully brought out the sharp contracts of hei ; subjects in her recitation of W. S. Gilbert's "Tragedy and Comedy." The concert concluded with a concerted song cycle, "In a Persian Garden," presented Very tastefully by Mifie Winifred Hill (soprano), Miss Beryl Smith (contralto), Mr. Leslie Russell (tenor) and Mr. J. T. Gibson (baee), all of whom sang with fine expression, bringing out well the beauties of Liza Lehinaun'e melodious work. The accompanists were Misses Judeon, P. Brooke, G. Sean-ell, Dr. Phillips and Mr. Alan Pow.
