SOCIAL GATHERINGS.
Mr. and Mrs. W. Demler, of Market Road, Epsom, gave a party in St. George's Hall to celebrate the coming of age of their third daughter Beryal. The inclemency of the weather did not prevent about a hundred guests arriving to thoroughly enjoy themselves, and dancing to the music of Dan Cullen's orchestra. Mrs. Demler received the guests in an attractive frock of gold printed maroon maroeain. She was assisted by her daughter, Joycelyn, frocked in shades of mauve. The guest of honour was in rust crepe matelasse relieved with preen. Among the guests were: Mesdames Savory, Lang, Mitchell, Stobbs, Butler, Leatherbarrow, Pattison, Sutherland and the Misses J. Craig, M. Chennels, G. Clayton, G. Leatherbarrow, N. and J. Butler, E. and F. Thomas, Bertha Coyle, I. Coyle, J. Shaw and M. Savory.
A charming gift afternoon and 5 o'clock tea party was given by Mrs. L. Heard at her lovely new residence, 9, Awatea Road, Parnell, on Saturday afternoon last in honour of Miss Olive Buchanan, whose marriage is to take place at an early date. Prior to opening the many gifts Miss Buchanan was presented with two beautiful rose bouquets and a decorated posy of choco ; lates. Competitions and games were thoroughly enjoyed by all present and a gift guessing competition which concluded the party caused much amusement. To receive her guests Mrs. Heard wore a very pretty cigar brown ensemble suit. Amongst those present were: Mesdames C. Buchanan, W. McLeay, L. Easson, A. McCullough, R. Trenchard Smith; J. McLeay, F.
