"CHATEAU INCIDENT."
WHO !S THE DEFENDANT? CASE TO BE CALLED THIS WEEK. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) HASTINGS, this day. A Taumarunui source of information discloses that the defendant in the pending action connected* with the "Chateau incident" is a resident of Te Awanga, near Hastings. Owing to the fact that the chief defence -witness, who is a member of the personal staff of the Governor-General, is not at present available, it is likely that an adjournment will be applied for when the case is called at the Taumarunui Magistrate's Court on Thursday. The witness concerned is on a tour of inspection of the coast lighthouses with Lord Galway on the Government steamer Matai. The case referred to Is the sequel to an affray at the Chateau Tongariro some weeks ago, when the mauager, Mr. Cobbe, was seriously injured in attempting to quell a disturbance.
