DOUGLAS GAUNTLET.

MR. BISHOP DENIES RUMOUR, _ Mr. W. A. Bishop, the National candidate for Auckland Suburbs, again ran the gauntlet of Douglas Credit interjection at the Henderson Town Hall last evening. "Can't you think of any new ones ?" he asked in return. "A stupid and vicious rumour has been circulated to the effect that I shall cease to give my personal support, as chairman of tho W.C.C., to unemployment affairs if I do not receive their support," said Mr. Bishop. "This is grossly untrue. Ido not attempt to intimidate anyone. If you consider that my opponents can do more for you than me, by all means vote for them." A motion of confidence was carried unanimously. STATEMENT EXPLAINED. Mr. J. Caughley, Democrat candidate for Kaipara, explains that during his meeting at Awakino Point his remarks relating to exchange and station agents became involved and ambiguous owing to an interjection about banks. A clearance of £3,000,000, which was attributed to a firm, was intended to refer to the banks. Mr. J. Caugliley's nomination as a candidate for Kaipara was lodged in Dargaville yesterday. SAVINGS BANK ALLEGATIONS. Votes of confidence were accorded Mr. A. S. Richards (Labour, Roskill) at Owair&ka meetings yesterday. Referring to the Government party's, advertisements regarding the New South Wales Government Savings Bank, he Baid that Mr. Justice Piddington had written a booklet explaining how the Federal Government had even broken its own laws to cause the closing of the bank to discredit the Lang Labour Government.
