SOCIAL GATHERINGS.
A 21st birthday party was given in the Foreaters Hall. Henderson, to Miss Avis Leslie on Saturday evening. Mrs. H. S. Leslie received the guests wearing black lace and velvet, and Miss Avis Leslie was in scarlet sand crepe. Among those present were: Me?,dames Fenton, Donald, F. Leslie, J. Leslie, Osborne, Welsh, Misses Verna Leslie, Rita Leslie, J. Fenton, N. Fenton„ J. Donald, N. Donald, G. Higgott, N. Parr, G. Erikson, S. Bennett, D. Bennett, D. Moors, V. Moors, B. Paltridge, D. Johnson, M. Osborne.
A pleasant morning tea party was held at Milne and Cnoyce's Tudor tearooms on Saturday wlien Miss Agnes Stops, who arrived in Auckland by the Mariposa that morning, was welcomed by the president and past and present members of the Auckland District Federation of Women's Institutes. The guest of honour, who received a pretty corsage spray of pink flowers, thoroughly enjoyed renewing old friendships and forming new ones. Among those present were: Mrs. Stanley Phillips (president), Mesdames Teape, Miliigan, lnsley, Revell, McElwain, Bagnall, liobb and the Misses Hopper and Cliilwell.
Mrs. E. A. Thomas, of Essex Road, Mount Eden, gave a very enjoyable party on Saturday night, to celebrate the coming of age of her daughter Ruby. After the cako had been cut a few hearty toasts honoured and the key of the door presented, the party left for the Peter Pan Cabaret, where a very pleasant evening was spent in dancing. , Miss Ruby Thomas wore a frock of cream taffeta relieved with emerald green, and among her many guests were: Mesdames Edwards and Williams and Misses Ida Thomas, Joy Hill, Claire Reefman, Betty Anderton, Jean Goodwin, Doreen McWilliam, Miriam Critoph, Marjorie Bainbridge, Joan Barber and Olga Craig. • • • •
An unique double Dirtliday party celebrating the coming of age of Miss Zeta Charles, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. Charles, of Grove Road, Papakura, and of Mr. Ronald Watson, second son of Mr. and Mrs; R. Watson, of East Street, Papakura, was held in the Broadway Lounge on Saturday evening. Both young people are prominent members of the Papakura Tennis Club and during the' evening they were handed large golden keys by the club captain, Mr. G. F. McDonald. A number of items were given and dance music was played by Mr. Ray Grace. Among those present were: Mesdames A. Charles, R. Watson, D. Farrand, P. Hunt, N. Clews, W. Rogers, F. Wilson, J. F. Johnstone, H. Pollock and R. Lanigan, Misses N. Powell, N. Clark, L. Appleby, L. Davidson, J. Frances, C. McDonald, G. Nelmes,'M. Markwick, H. Markwick, R. Spinley, R. Beams and M. Johnston.
