VOLUNTEER FORCES.
PUBLIC SUPPORT URGED. TERRITORIAL ASSOCIATION. "During these times of trouble the employers and people of Auckland cannot do too much for our territorials, who are volunteers," said Mr. 11. T. Goldie, deputy-chairman of the executive, at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Territorial Association (Northern Command) 'at the Drill Hall last night. Mr. Goldie, who was moving the adoption of the annual report, as previously published, said that many of their donations had come from Mr. Eliot R. Davis, M.L.C. He also acknowledged the good work of the hon. general secretary, Mr. 11. J. Gillmore.
Mr. A. G. Lunn, who seconded the motion, said New Zealand's small defence force was not anything like what it should be, and if it were not for the prestige of Britain we might find ourselves in sore straits. They had sent out 1000 letters through the Chamber of Commerce to employers regarding leave for employees for drills and camps, and there had been quite a number of replies of an exemplary character.
The report was adopted and the following office-bearers declared elected: President, Sir Jas. Gunson; vice-presi-dents, Sir Henry Horton, Sir Cecil Leys, Colonel H. D. Holgate, Mr. Ernest Davis; executive, Sir Joseph Smith, Messrs. Eliot R. Davis, M.L.C. (chairman), H. T.< Goldie (deputy-chairman), C. W. Coles, M. K. Draflin, A. M. Ferguson, A. G. ; Lunn, A. A. Ross, Mrs. Kenneth Gordon; hon. treasurer, Mr. R. A. Spinley; hon. auditor, Mr. J.' M. Elliffe; hon. solicitor, Mr. F. L. G. West.
Captain F. A. Macdonald, hon. secretary of the association until he resigned owing to illness, was elected a life member.
After business was concluded a concert was held in the social hall, after which eupper was served.
