At the Heretaunga course the New Zealand women's golf championship .was continued, the third round being played. Chief interest centres in the performances ' of the New Zealand players against the • English women. 1 Results:— 5 Third Round.—Miss P. Wade beat Mre. ' McFadyen, 8 and 6; Mrs. Greenlees beat ; Mies M. Guy, 7 and 6; Miss J. Anderson i beat Miss J. Hoiwell, 5 and 3; Miss P. ; Helean beat Miss U. Jamee, 4 and 3; Mre. r Walker beat Mrs. Fullerton-Smith, 4 ana 3; Miss V. Fleming beat Miss M..Beadei, 4 and 3; Miss 0. Kay beat Mies O. Smith, ; 0 and 5; Miss P. Barton beat Miss White- ' Parsons, 4 and 3. The draw for to-morrow is Miss Wade v. Mrs. Greenlees and' Miss Anderson v. Miss Helean in the top half, and Mrs. , Walker v. Miss Fleming and Miss Barton ' v. Mies Kay in the bottom half. The conditions were perfect and the 1 course easy, and the exhibitions o£ the , visitors made it look particularly so. The • five of them remain in the semi-finals, in which New Zealand will be represented by Miss Helean, Miss Fleming and Miss Kay. The only one of the visitors to be tested ' at all was Mrs. Walker, and after six holes she had the measure of the titlehoL'lsr, Mrs. Fullerton-Smith. Misses Wade and Anderson and Mrs. Greenlees provided the fireworks of the morning, Miss Anderson and Mrs. Greenlees both playing the first nine holes in 35 and Miss Wade in 37, a tally which Mrs. Walker also obtained against Mrs. Fullerton-Smith'e 39. Miss Wade commenced with a birdie 3, and her opponent could only halve three holes in the first nine, to be 5 down. Miss Wade then won three more in a row. Miss Anderson also brilliantly commenced with a 3. She gave Miss Horwell few chances, and after six holes the Timaru player was 5 down, and she was still in that position at the turn, even I though she obtained a 2 at the ninth. J Despite the fact that Miss Barton's i game was far from unblemished, she had : no difficulty in recording an easy win, as did Miss Kay. The latter has still to show her best form, and looks to have j little chance of defeating the visitors. I Miss Helean had little to spare against | ' the Masterton player, Miss James, in the ! first nine, which ehe played in 41. ■ Both commenced with a 6, but Miss Helean then played six holes in bogey, figures.
Title-holder Defeated. The gallery followed the match between Mrs. Walker and Mrs. Fullerton-Smith, and they were treated to an interesting exhibition, in the early part of which, the New Zealand title-holder did equally as well as Mrs. Walker. The latter did not begin well, being astray with her first two shots, and lost the hole to Mrs. Fullertou-Smith's sound 4. Both obtained the i at the next, and then Mrs. Walker squared t!ie game with a 2 to her opponent's 3. Each won a hole and they were square with two holes of the outward half to play. At these Mre. Walker made do mistakes, whereas Mrs. Fullerton-Smith found a bunker with her third at the Jong eighth and could not get the 3 at the short ninth, thus being 2 down at the turn.
Mrs. Walker increased her lead with a 4 at the tenth and held this till the fourteenth, after which he was dormy 3 up. Mrs. Fullerton-Smith was 12ft from the pin in 3 at i the twelfth,, (stymied . her opponent, arid just failed l with her putt for a 4, a half resulting.- At the thirteenth, after a. perfect approach, Mrs. Walker was robbed of a win in 4 by a stymie. At the next short hole neither was on the green from the tee, bnt Mrs. Walker was nine inches from the pin with another perfect approach and Mrs. Fullerton-Smith did well to hole a sevenfooter for the half. The following short hole saw the end, as Mrs. FullertonSinith hooked her tee shot and could not get the 3, which her opponent did without difficulty.
