GOLD MINING.
CENTRAL OTAGO DISCOVERY. QUARTZ DRIFT SEAM. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, this day. What promises to be a distinctly interesting discovery of a gold-bearing lead has been made in the Blackstone Hill district, Central Otago, by two miners working under the Unemployment Board's scheme. In the course of sluicing operations they have come upon a quartz drift seam carrying within it a narrow lead, which is yielding coarse rough gold. Mixed with this are large pieces, some of which are too big to enter the mouth of an aspirin bottle. Although only about Ooz of gold have been recovered from this lead, which has just been discovered, the significance oif the find lies in its potentialities, as it is known that this seam of quartz drift extends for many miles through the district. In the near vicinity is a small patch of about an acre, - from which local tradition has it that 4000oz was taken by the first miners.
