£31,000 GIVEN. ANGLICAN CHURCH-GOERS. ST. MARK'S GETS £1818. Anglican churchgoers in the diocese of Auckland gave a total of £31,577 J towards parish, diocesan and mission work for the year ended March 31, 1035, according to accounts presented to Synod. The greatest individual amount was in offertories and subscriptions for parish purposes, which amounted to £20,453. Receipts for diocesan purposes amounted to £1705 and for foreign missions £2140. Receipts from other sources brought in £5410. Of the Auckland churches St. Mark's, Remuera, topped the list of offertories with a total of £181 S. The next were the Cathedral Church of St. Mary, Parnell, with £70!); All Saints', Ponsonby, £743; and St. Andrew's, Synionds Street, £OSS. The extent to which church receipts have fallen since the boom years is shown in the comparison of the amounts given ten years ago. The parish accounts for 1925, 0110 of the most prosperous of post-war years, showed that there were three church with a total income of more than £2000. Tliev were St. Mary's £2527 (now £1411),' St. Matthew's £2110 (now £113(1), and St. Mark's £2021 (now £1893). However, for the past few years the amounts have been steadily maintained. St. Mary's is the only church that now retains the rental system of seats. The 150 seats rented brought in a total of £103. Of the 50 churches in the Auckland Diocese those with the smallest total receipts arc Coromandel with £77, Mangere £120 and Birkenhead £109.
