HOCKEY ASSOCIATION.

COMPLIMENTARY DINNER. At the Hotel Auckland last night the Auckland Hookey Association tendered a complimentary dinner and social to the club secretaries und assisting officials. Mr. E. J. Hewitt, chairman, presided; and in his remarks thanked the various officials for the loyal support accorded the association during the season. This, lie said, was responsible for the highly successful season enjoyed, and had eased the duties during a very strenuous period of the association's activities. Mr. Hewitt also took the opportunity of expressing tlia association's thanks to Mr. Bryce Gillespie, of the Grammar school, who leiives later in the year for a sojourn in England, the association's appreciation for hia efforts, not only in the management but for fostering and encouraging hockey in the Grammar school, which was Auckland's nursery ror the game. Mr. Gillespie suitably replied. In recognition of the services they have rendered to the game, Messrs. E. Watts' (rep. player)" and W. Newshani (selector) were presented by Mr. Hewitt on behalf of the association with the association blazer, worked with a record of their services. "These gentlemen," said Mr. Hewitt, "had for many years, Mr. Watts since 1021 as a representative player, and Mr. Newsham (selector) for 11 years, rendered Auckland hockey yeoman service, and the officials felt that the time was long overdue to express in some tangible form their appreciation. Mr. Watts and Mr. Newsham, in reply, thanked the association for their kindly gifts and expressed their intention of in the future assisting the game in any manner possible. After the dinner the party adjourned to the Harbour Board social rooms, where a most enjoyable function concluded a fitting finish to a fine season.
