YACHT NGATAKI.
AUCKLAND TO TAHITI. CALLS AT SUNDAY ISLAND. Details of the yacht Ngataki's voyage from Auckland to Papeete, Tahiti, were received this morning. Tho yacht sailed from Great Barrier on August 14 in a hard westerly. Good time was made, and Curtis Island was sighted on the 17th, four days out. Sunday Island was made next day, where Mr. J. W. j Wray and his crew landed. The three men, Alf. Bacon, Beg. Kandell and Bruce Robinson, who were taken to the island on a previous trip of tho Ngataki, were in good health and enjoying the outdoor life. The weather was still rough, and only one day was spent at Sunday Island, j The yacht again made fast time on her | way north, and on August 25 was j forced to lieave-to in a gale from the I north-east. After 24 hours the course was resumed, and fine weather set in, j which held, being on the light side. A call of three days was made at Rurutu Island, Austral Group. This is a French possession, and only one man could speak English. The yacht left Rurutu on September 12, and arrived at Papeete on September 17. The crew report a very friendly reception, and admire the islands and its people, who are very hospitable. Mr. Wray proposes to cruise amongst the group and reach Vavau early in November. YACHT TE HAPOTGA. ROUGH TRIP TO RAROTONGA. The yacht Te Rapunga, which left Auckland in August, reports having a rough trip to liarotonga. She was hove-to for 100 hours, says Captain Dibbcm, in a message to Auckland, but arrived all well. The crew consists of Miss E. Morris and Messrs. Roy Murdoch and M. Black.
