END OF SESSION.
GOVERNMENT CAUCUS PROPOSED LEGISLATION. ANOTHER FULL WEEK 1 (By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. The main purpose of the caucus of Government members to-day was to confer with Ministers regarding tho remaining legislative programme and to determine the approximate date of the end of tlie session. Members concluded their deliberations in less optimistic frame of mind over an early ending when the caucus opened, for it was disclosed that several measures to lie proceeded with are still in the hands of the Crown law draftsman, and that tlie, total number in the programme exepeds a dozen. l'rogress with the Estimates has not been so fast as was expected last week. Therefore the. Government will utilise to-day and to-morrow for their completion, including the Public Works appropriations, and urgency will be taken for (lie purpose. The coming legislation includes a further extension of relief to urban mortgagors, while the Finance Bill, authorising an increase of 7J per cent to public servants, is awaited with particular interest, because there is quite a possibility of this rise being retrospective from August 1. Tho Prinio Minister, Mr. Forbes, when interviewed at tho conclusion of tho caucus, was disinclined to agree that tho session would end in the middle of next week, but thought that if members apply themselves to the remaining business it should conclude at the end of that week. Some coming legislation, while not highly controversial. was, he admitted, of such a character that somo objection would be taken to it.
