SEVERE PENALTIES. BILL INTRODUCED TO-DAY. £200 FINE OR TWO YEARS. (By Teiegrnpli.—Piirl'atnontary Reporter.) WELLINGTON", this day. More severe penalties for the conversion of motor cars are provided for in the Police Offences Amendment. Bill, which is being introduced in the House of Representatives to-day by GovernorGeneral's Message. It is understood that the maximum penalty for an indictable offence will be £200. in default two years' imprisonment. For summary conviction the penalty will be a fine of £100, or one year's imprisonment, and for convictions under any other proceeding the. penalty will be a fine of £50, or three months' imprisonment.
