SUCCESSES AT OXFORD.
That interesting list you published of New Zealanders' successes in the English literature honours examination at Oxford does not tell the full story. In addition to these sik-ccsscs, gained this year, ,T. .AI. Bertram, a Rhodes scholar from Auckland University College, gained a first-class last year. That is to say, three Auckland students obtained a first in this examination in two years. Y\ hen the smallness of the first class is considered this is a striking achievement. This year there were eight firsts, of whom four were women; last year there were. 1 think, seven; in 10.13 six. These last two figures 1 cannot he sure of, but tlicy are sufficiently accurate for niv purpose. A.I .C.
