GRAIN AND PRODUCE.
MARKETS ARE FIRM. BRAN STILL SCARCE, Bran is still very scarce in Auckland. Backward weather conditions have brought about a prolonged and keen demand, with the result that millers have to. ration their customers. Merchants are now asking £6 10/ per ton, as against £6 5/ last week. Pollard, too, is still selling freely, but regular shipments from Australia, supplementing local supplies, have enabled requirements to be met. The market for horse feed is very firm, though no change has been made in last week's quotations. Demand is keeping up better than is usual at this time of year. This week will sec the last of the shipments from Canterbury of the milling wheat which has been sent up in recent months by authority of the Wheat Board at a special price to meet the needs of North Island poultry feeders. On Friday the first shipment from Australia, also arranged by the Wheat .Board, is due and will be landed at approximately the same price as the southern was costing, namely, about 4/10 per bushel. It is not expected that the local selling rate will be materially affected. 1
Mai/.e is in very short supply, apparently as the result of shelling operations having been interfered with by wet weather a few weeks back. Small quantities only are coming forward from the Bay of Plenty and from Gisborne, and in face of a keen demand local selling rates have advanced 3d per bushel to 4/10.
Spot stocks of potatoes are sufficient for requirements, and the market is practically unchanged at last week's high rates, namely, 18/6 to 19/. Small lots of seed potatoes are still inquired for, but i such orders are hard to fill. With the arrival of a fresh shipment from California, the onion market is fairly well supplied, but with some merchants short, last week's prices have been maintained at 25/ per 1001b for both Canadian and Californian.
