ROUND TABLE CLUB.
At the dinner given last evening bv the Auckland Business and Professional Women's Round Table Club there was a large attendance of members and guests. The president, Miss L. Langsford, introduced the speaker, Mr. W. J. Lvon, M.A., Oxon., who chose for his subject "Economics from the Woman's Point of View." In the course of his remarks Mr. Lyon explained the various problems confronting womenfolk so far as political economics were concerned, and urged the necessity for them to take an intelligent interest in recording their votes, citing the fact that women wielded a tremendous influence partly because they controlled the household budget. Two phases of. economics of vital interest to women were the domestic point of view, that is, economic security in the home and the possibilities of tiie expansion of industry whereby women could definitely take some part in development. The speaker mentioned the tremendous encroachment made by women in business as a whole, and explained how in many respects they supplied a driving force. In effect political economies, he said, meant what was best in the interests of the administration of the affairs of a nation, so that the whole of the people in the country would materially benefit.
At the conclusion of his address Mr. Lyon was accorded a vote of thanks proposed by Miss E. Strong.
