CARLTON CROQUET.
A large number of members and friends attended the opening of the 1935-36 season of the Carlton Croquet Club, which was held on Saturday afternoon. The president, Mrs. Hamilton, welcomed the visitors, who were represented from as far north as Helensville and as far south as Manurevva. The New Zealand Council was represented by tlio vice-president, Mrs. Hamilton, who is also the club's president, and the Auckland association by its president, Mrs. McGill, the vice-president, Mrs. Clark, the secretary, Mrs. Keesing, and the assistant-secretary, Mrs. FinchThe New Zealand handicapper, Mrs. Bartlett, and Mrs. Badeley and Mrs. Garrard, ex-presidents of the Auckland association, were alsp among those present. The winners of trophies for the afternoon were:—A grade: Mrs. Elliot, 1; Mrs. Clark, 2. B grade: Mrs. Solomon, 1; Mrs. W. A. Browne, 2. On behalf of the association Mrs. McGill thanked the members of the club for the happy time spent. Mrs. Hamilton had donated the trophies for the afternoon. Tea was served in the pavilion, which had been decorated with black and gold, the club's colours. During the winter months the members worked hard to raise funds for additions and renovations to the pavilion, the result being most attractive. The additions include a new window, donated by Mrs. Perry, vice-president.
