REV. COURTENAY C. WEEKS GIVES EVIDENCE.
The Rev. Courtcnay C. Weeks is a clerk in Holy Orders, and was at one time vicar of St. Hilda, Crofton Park, London. He resigned his living to devote his whole time to preaching and lecturing in the great public schools like Eton and Harrow, and also the universities and training colleges throughout Great Britain and Ireland. He is also a medical man and served as a surgeon in the Great War. He is a director of the National Temperance League, and gave evidence on behalf of the organised temperance forces of England and Wales before the Royal Commission on licensing. He is frequently quoted in "prohibition" propaganda. Giving evidence before the Royai Commission, he was asked the following question: "Do you wish to limit, by legislation, the consumption of alcohol to commercial and medicinal purposes?" His reply was: "If by your question you mean do I advocate prohibition, the answer is 110."
| There are still some* people who fail to see the difference between temperj ance and prohibition. The great majo- ; rity of lis are temperate people, and the demand for prohibition is now largely confined to the fanatical section . of the community, to whom temperance lis unknown. —(Ad.).
