STOLEN CAR INCIDENT.

«GOVERNMENT GRANT , DESERVED.”

(By Telegraph.—rarllamentarj- Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Friday.

The case of Constable Stewart, who was seriously injured at Auckland some months ago when endeavouring to stop.a man who had stolen a motor car, was mentioned by Mr. F. W. Schramm (Labour, Auckland East) in the House this morning, when the police estimates were under consideration.

A young constable, he said, had ruined his life, and a grant for his services should be made, irrespective of the result of the compensation case now before the Court.

The Minister, in reply, said that Constable Stewart was still on the sick list at full pay, and that the Department was awaiting the Court decision before taking further action.
