RACING AT PAEROA

TAUMARUNUI MEETING. Abbess of Whitby Wins Juvenile The annual meeting of the laumarunui Racing Club opened at Paeroa to-day and will conclude on Monday. The weather is fine, and there is a good attendance. The course is holding. Te Alaranui and Abbess of Whitby were the only starters in the Juvenile Handicap, the opening event of the meeting, and most support came for the. latter. After .going a furlong Abbess of Whitby took charge and crossing the. top was four lengths clear of her opponent, the distance being increased to six lengths at the home urn. In the run to the post Abbess of Whitby drew out to win by seven lengths. A Good Dividend.

Imperial Prince dropped out of the Handicap Hurdles, in which the chief fancies were Prince Vai, Valorous and London. Erination, Prince Vai and Valorous were first to show out, and passing the stand Erination was leading Valorous, London, Lord Vai, Prince Vai and En Tour, with Street Dancer and Royal England well back. Crossing the top Erination was two lengths ahead of Valorous, with London, Prince Vai, En Tour and Lord Vai following. There was little change into the straight, and Erination went on to win by three lengths from Valorous, who beat Prince Vai by three-quarters of a length. En Tour, Lord Vai and London were next, with Royal England and Street Dancer tailed off. The winner paid over a score on the win machine. A Close Finish. Nebulae and Sir Romeo were, not saddled up for the Hack Cup. and most money came for Snow Lap. Keith Lu and Alaz.ir. Killadar, Snow Lap, Alazir and Pound Sterling were quickest to begin, but along the back Salesman had charge from Killadar, Pound Sterling, Snow Lap, Landlubber. Holly Lu and Alazir, with Keith Lu last. Snow Lap followed Salesman into the straight, with Killadar and Alazir, who had moved up fast, next; then came Landlubber, Royal Winton and Keith Lu. In a close finish Snow Lap beat. Alazir by a. short head, with Salesman threequarters of a length away. Killadar, Keith Lu. Royal Winton, Landlubber. Kami pa. Pound Sterling and Holly Lu were next.
