“New Zealanders Are Friendly Folk.”
CLUB CAPTAIN.
LET US JUSTIFY THIS GOOD OPINION
Dear Boys and Girls,— Many of you will no doubt remember that the Chief Scout and Chief Guide visited New Zealand early this year. While here they loured the entire Dominion by private car, seeing in this way more of life in the country than would an ordinary tourist. One thing which impressed the Chief to a very considerable extent Was the friendliness of the people. The Englishman is noted for his reserved manner, and so folic from the Old Country would be quiclc to notice any laclc of restraint between people. So impressed was the Chief with the friendliness of the people he met and saw that upon his. return home he made special mention of the fact in a series of articles he is writing in “.The Scout." This is what he says in one part: ”... The k'mdness and courtesy of this honey man Was only like that of everybody one meets in New Zealand. Passing cars wave greetings to each other and everyone We passed along the roads especially the road-menders and sheep-drovers—all smilingly waved their hats, though they did not know who we were. But New Zealanders are all friendly folk-” Coming from an outsider this is good news, and I want to-night to ask ijou all to live up to this reputation, for surely there is none finer. Have pou f Is read Kipling's “Kim," the story of a boy who was “the little friend of all the Qt/” world?" If not, read it, for the book > s one'Well worthy of your attention.
