SMALL "BAGS."
THE NEW FISHING SEASON. TAUMARUNUI DISTRICT RIVERS. (From Our Own Correspondent.) TAUMARUNOI, Wednesday. A number of anglers wore out early on Tuesday morning, but no large catches were reported at the close of tiie lirst day of the n6w season. Ram fell in the Taumarunui district on Monday evening, and anglers blame the flooded state of the rivers for some months past for the small bags. In the Wanganui River, between the Victory Bridge and the Mataputia Bridge, anglers had very little success, and the majority returned home after their morning visit to the river with one, two or three iish, which were small, but in splendid condition. Fishing at Manunui one angler secured 14 small trout, including several browns in poor condition.
Experienced anglers attribute the small bags to the over abundance of feed in the rivers.
In tho Ongaruo, River two anglers took three fish each, the heaviest being 211b.
