PERSONAL.

Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Cocker returned from the South yesterday.

The Mayor, Mr. Ernest Davis, left to-day on a visit to Rotorua and Wairakei.

Mr. F. Aickin, railway law officer, is expected to leave for the South by the Limited to-night.

The Hons. C. J. Carrington and E. R. Davis, M.L.C.'s, left for Wellington by the Limited last night.

Mi\ J. llott, of Wellington, arrived from the Soitlli by train this morning and is at the Grand Hotel.

Mr. W. IT. Bennett lias been re-elected chairman of the board of governors of the Wellington Technical College.

Senior Fireman J. Hepburn, of the Christchurch Brigade, has been appointed deputy-superintendent of the Palmerston North Brigade.

Mr. W. Laird Thomson, secretary of the Auckland Society of Arts, has returned from a winter sports holiday at National Park.

Mr. J. W. A. Ileenan, Under-Secretary of Internal Affairs, who been in Auckland on Departmental business, returned south last night.

Sir Stephen Allen, chairman of the Transport Co-ordination Board, and Air. L. Alderton, a member of the board, will leave for the South by the Limited tonight.

'Mr. W. Wallace, chairman of the Auckland Hospital Board, is travelling to Wellington this afternoon on hospital business, and will return at the end of the week.

Mr. I. J. Pohlen, of the North Auckland Lands Department, will leave Auckland at the end of the month to assist Dr. L. Grange in soil survey work in the Hawke's Bay district.

Commander C. H. T. Palmer, R.N.V.R. (retired), has been appointed president of the Auckland branch of the Navy League. He was president of the league in 1929 and 1930, and was chairman of the executive council from 1025 to 1029. He is well known in yachting and power boat circles.

Mr. S. S. Dean, Wellington manager of the South British Insurance Company, and chairman of the management committee of the New Zealand Rugby Union, arrived in Auckland by the Limited this morning, and is at the Grand Hotetl. Mr. Dean leaves for England by tli© Rangitane on Friday to represent the Dominion at the Rugby Football Conference to be held in London in November.
