SPEED ACHIEVEMENT.
SIR M. CAMPBELL WELCOMED,
(British Official Wireless.)
RUGBY, September 20,
Sir Malcolm Campbell, who broke the world's land speed record in Utah on September 3, arrived at Southampton by the liner Majestic yesterday. He was welcomed by the Mayor. The American Ambassador to Britain, Mr. Robert W. Bingham, who had travelled by the same steamer, joined in the ceremony and paid a warm tribute to Sir Malcolm, whose achievement, he said, was respected and admired in the United States.
In reply Sir Malcolm expressed his thanks for the perfect organisation and friendly help provided by the Americana and described his record as an "AngloAmerican achievement" because he had to go to America to find a suitable course.
