MR. A. V. PENN.
Mr. Arthur Valentino Penn, of Great South Road, Re mil era, who held the position of Collector of Customs from 1925 to 1928, has died. He arrived from England in Taranaki with his parents in 1881, and three years later entered the Customs service as a cadet at Auckland. After four years' experience here ho was transferred to the South and was stationed at a number of different ports until 1909, when lie returned to Auckland as landing surveyor. Promoted in duo course to be sub-collector, Mr. Penn was acting-collector for some months after the retirement of Mr. J. P. Ridings, and was then appointed collector, and retired in 1928. Mr. Penn was a past president of the Grafton Shakespeare and Dramatic Club and a member of the Mount Eden Bowling Club. Ho is survived by his wife and| one son. |
