TRADE WITH JAPAN.
DIRECT SHIPPING SERVICE. WELCOMED BY DUNEDIN. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) DUNEDIN, this day. General satisfaction with the announcement that arrangements have been completed for the establishment of a direct shipping service between New Zealand and Japan and that Duncdin will lie one of the ports of call was expressed by business men. The general opinion is that the service will present welcome opportunities to New Zealand exporters to see that tliev get their fair share ■ of trade to the East with Australia. "I am naturally very pleased with the announcement that a direct service is to be instituted," said Mr. J. C. Sliand, who on a recent visit to the East negotiated to send products to friends in Japan. "The new service will mean the opening of the way for the shipping of primary products from New ■Zealand to Japan." Mr. John C. Be?g, president of the Chamber of Commerce, said that a considerable amount of wool was exported to Japan, and it was to Lo hoped that the new shipping venture would be justified by results.
