NAVAL ACTIVITIES.

THREE WARSHIPS RETURN. PREPARATIONS FOR EXERCISES. There was considerable activity at the Devon port naval base to-day, when three warships returned to port. At noon H.M.S. Leith, commanded by Captain Oliver Bevir, returned from her first Pacific Islands cruise, after being away since June 11. The cruisers Dunedin, commanded by Commodore the Hon. L. R. Drumniond, and Diomcdc, commanded by Captain Cosmo Graham, returned at 1 p.m. from three days' "working up" manoeuvres in the Gulf. H.M.S. Wellington, commanded by Commander J.'B. E. Hall, returns tomorrow morning from the Pacific Island*. On Monday morning the Dunedin and Diomede will go out for five days' full calibro gunnery and torpedo practice in the Gulf. The Wellington will leave on Wednesday, towing the large battle practice target. The Leith will undergo a refit early next month.
