MINE MANAGERS' REPORTS,
Mataki. —Under date the ICth inst the dredgeinaster reports as follows: —"During tho week ending 15th inst. the dredge worked for 120 hours 20 minutes for a return of 3Soz 7dwt lOgr, pulling ahead 27ft in ground, the average depth of which was 10ft. On tho bank side the dredge lias run into old workings, the ground being worked to a depth of 12ft. This has been worked, and now consists of heaps of clean stones and line gravel. The bottom of this section is again dipping in places, going down to 21ft, and lias hard wash in the bottom. I cannot say at present how long this is likely to continue as the surface has been covered over with river silt by iloods, which makes tlie ground look as though it bad not been disturbed. The face at the junction o£ the two cuts consists of (roof, wash dirt carrying good gold. River prospects are also fair and the sample of gold is much better, being of heavier quality. Some time was lost during the week pulling out stumps and large stones, i otherwise all machinery worked well."
