CYCLING.
TAKAPUNA AMATEUR CLUB
Two races were decided here last Saturday, namely, the junior championship, which was of 14 miles, and held over the Lake and Birkenhead course, and the senior event for the Wilson Trophy, this being over eight laps (3'7i miles), 30 miles on the Lake circuit.
After a solid ride from the scratch mark L. Denning claimed the junior title and third placing in the handicap, in the good time of 40.30. Barring accidents, Les was practically a certainty for championship honours, which forms a fitting climax to his career as a junior, and cap a series of successes in "times" and "places" won in both senior and junior classes, lie has earned the light to challenge the senior title, and will probably do so. T. Bassett (1.30) finished first in the handicap, just 0.41 slower than the champion, after some exceptionally line pedalling. At the moment he ties with Gcmmell in leading "points" in the junior. G. Gemmell (7.30), the limit rider, finished third, with D. Bowsie, who was unfortunate enough to miss the course, fourth.
| Jn the seniors, V. Blomficld (1.15) covered three laps before being overhauled by the scratch men, Parker and Eagles. Working well, this team went to the front with everything set for a great finish. Coming into the straight, "Bio" came out with a fine sprint which drew him away to an easy victory in 85.48. A. Parker, who appeared to be riding more smoothly than his co-marker and made a desperate attempt to hold Blomficld, finished in second place with fastest time honours in 84.33 1-3. It. Eagles appeared slightly off colour towards the end of the race, and in the sprint made little attempt to challenge his co-marker for time. He finished in third placing in 84.34. _ This rider, in company with Blomfield, is well in the lead for the points trophy. Points stand at: 11. Eagles CO, V. Blomfield 50, A. Parker 43% and L. Denning 39' As. Next Saturday the club will hold its senior championship event to Silverdale and back, a distance of 44 miles, and a junior race of 11% miles (3 laps), to be held on the Lake circuit.
