PLUNKET SOCIETY'S WORK.
ANNUAL CONFERENCE OPENED. (By Telegraph.—rress Association.) WELLINGTON, Thursday. In opening the annual conference of the Plunket Society, the Minister of Health, Sir Alexander Young, said the council of the society had requested an increase in the Government grant to enable adjustments to be made in nurses' salaries. The request would be considered, and he would do his best to help the society. Grants already agreed to for the present year totalled £20,510.
Both Sir Alexander Young and Lady Sidey referred to the work done by Sir Truby King, and Lady Sidey suggested that the society should show some tangible recognition of its appreciation by perpetuating his name in every possible way.
The chief matters dealt with were a proposed new schedule of salaries for the society's nursing staff, the laying down of by-laws to govern the appointment of Karitane honorary medical staffs and the advisability of extending the society's activities by means of radio talks. A report of a recent investigation by Dr. Wyn Irwin as to the results of* the society's teachings was also discussed.
