NEW RESERVOIRS.
WATER SUPPLY SCHEME. INSPECTION OF WORK. The chairman of the works committee of the Auckland City Council, Mr. A. Rosser, and the city engineer. Mr. J. Tyler, paid a visit of inspection this morning to the new reservoirs on Mount Hobson, which have been erected by the council, in order to ensure an adequate supply of water in the future for St. Heliers, Kohimarama and the higher portions of Remuera. The scheme provides for two reservoirs of equal capacity, and Mr. Rosser stated that one of the structures was already in commission, and the second would be completed about the end of this month. The idea of the twin reservoirs was to prevent an interrnption in the supply occurring should repair work become necessary, and also to enable cleaning operations to be carried out periodically. The work on the second structure, he added, was well forward, and the interior of the reservoir and the columns supporting Ibe roof were being plastered. The roofs were now being covered with soil, and later this would be sown in grass. .Spoil had also been distributed over the sides of the reservoir, to preserve the natural contour of the mountain as much as possible. When the work was entirely completed the only part of the reservoir that would be visible at a distance would be the ventilating shaft, which was roofed with ornamental tiles.
