CAULIFLOWER DEARER. MORE NEW POTATOES. TOMATOES STILL CHEAP. At to-day's auctions apples and pears were in good demand, as also were tree tomatoes, but Island tomatoes are still selling cheaply, though the demand is fair. There was a better demand for local grapefruit to-day : but lemons arc still very hard to quit at low prices. Oranges wore in fair demand, but pineapples were slow of sale. Ripe bananas were much cheaper than last week, large supplies being available. A shipment of Tongan bananas arrives this afternoon by the Port Whangarei and the Wanganella will arrive to-morrow, bringing a small shipment of South Australian oranges. Quotations are: — Apples: Mniiro, 5/ to 7/0; Doherty, G/ti to 8/; Ballarat, 7/ to 8/; Delicious and Sturmere, Hawke'e Bay. 7/6 to 8/; Nelson, 6/0 to 7/6; Granny Smith, 9/ to 10/; Wineeape. 8/ to 10/; Bateman, 8/ to 8/9. Pears: Coles and Nelie, threequarter cases, 8/ to 9/(S; bushels, 9/ to 11/6; P. Barry. 7/ to 8/. Passions: 10/ to 18/. Oranges: South Australian, 16/6 to 22/; Island, 14/ to 18/. Although the supply of cauliflower and cabbage was still fcood at to-day's sales the former fetched higher prices than it did last week, while the latter fully maintained last week's prices. Prices for Brussels sproute were, however, much lower owing to increased supplies. Heavier supplies of new potatoes are now arriving, but the better grades are still realising from 3d to 3%d per lb. Kumarae are in heavy supply and prices are a little lower tlian they were last week. Quotations: — Potatoes, new.
