ANTI-VIVISECTION UNION.
The sixth annual meeting of the Auckland branch of the British Union for the Abolition of Vivisection was held last evening. In the absence of the president, Mr. M. Walker, on account of ill-health, the chair was taken by Mr. W. J. Connors, past-president. The report and balancesheet showed that the society has been actively engaged during the past year, and is in a sound financial position. The chairman said that despite all the terrible experiment? on defenceless animals and the hundreds of thousands of pounds spent on serums, cancer was on the increase. In primitive races, where "civilisation" had not yet been felt to any great extent, cancer was unknown. "Why," he added, "do these experimentalists not go to these countries where cancer is not known and study the diet of these people? It is all a matter of diet." The following officers were elected: — President. Mr. M. Walker; vice-president, Mr. Basil Croker: lion, secretary and treasurer, Mr. G. G. Paul; hon. solicitor, Mr. A. M. Gould; executive committee. Mcsdames E. Connors. J. Noble, Mcekins, J. Sharp, Zinnaman, Missos E. Ward and E M. Moon, Messrs. H. L. Fendall, G. B. Winkfield, W. J. Connors.
