LOSS OF LAUNCH.
MOTOR VESSEL COLLISION. FORMAL INQUIRY LIKELY. (By Telegraph.—(Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Sunday. The Minister of Marine, thg Hon. J. G. Cobbe, stated yesterday that probably in addition to the preliminary inquiry already held there would be a formal inquiry under the Shipping and Seamen Act before a magistrate and tw> assossors into the eircamstai.'.ts of the './<!- lision between the mHor ship Breeze awl the fishing launch Bessie, miles south of Timaru early on the in rning of August 16. The Timaru fishing launch Bessie sank within a minute of the collision which occurred between her and the C niterbury Steamship Company's mow; vessel Breeze a few miles off the coast, while the launch was proceeding to Oamarti on August 16. Three fishermen. Messrs. A.'Bell, R. Lattimer and N. P. Bracefield, were rescued from drowning. Through what is thought to have- been a misunderstanding between the two vessels the Bessie came directly ictoss the bow of the Breeze, which was travellinn- at a speed of 10£ knots, and was struck a terrific blow slightly as';p-i of midships.
