Mr. Vernon Reid leaves for the South by to-night's Limited. Mr. and Mrs. P. Blundell, of Wellington, are at the Station Hotel. Mr. Gainor Jackson left by train for Wellington last night on a 10 days' visit. Mr. A. Leigh Hunt has been re-elected chairman of the New Zealand Forestry League. Mr. A. J. Parker returned by the Mariposa on Saturday from a visit to Queensland. Mr. L. W. Robertson, locomotive engineer for the Auckland railway district, left for Taranaki last evening. Mr. W. Clarke, of Onehunga, after being invalided for four months with a broken leg, has resumed active life. Mr. H. M. Rushworth, M.P. for Bay of Islands, and Mrs. Rushworth are leaving for the South to-night by the Limited. Mr. L. F. Casey, of Greymouth, has been appointed manager of the Hamilton branch of the Government Life Insurance Office. Mr. E. A. Callanan, chairman of the board of directors of the Vacuum Oil Proprietary, Limited, is spending a fortnight's holiday in New Zealand. Mr. T. A. Duncan, who took part in the meat negotiations in England, is with Mrs. Duncan at the Grand Hotel. They leave to-night for their home in Htniterville. Mr. H. C. Baulf, northern district organiser of the Democrat party, returned to Auckland yesterday after attending the Democrat conference in Wellington. Mr. G. W. Slane, headmaster of the Woodville District High School, has accepted the position of headmaster at the Te Papapa. School, Auckland, and will take over his new duties next term. Mr. A. ■ Grayson, president, and Mr. G. W. Hutchison, secretary of the Automobile Association (Auckland) returned by car yesterday from New Plymouth, after attending the annual conference of the North Island Motor Union. Mr. H. 'S. Robinson, general secretary of the Melanesian Mission in Sydney, and formerly stationed in Auckland, who arrived by the Mariposa on Saturday, leaves for Wellington to-night to attend the annual meeting of tlie New Zealand Board of Missions. He will return to Australia by the Monterey on September 6.
