CYCLING.
MANUKAU CLUB. Two road races were decided by the Manukau Amateur Cycling Club on Saturday afternoon. A howling westerly wind hindered the riders considerably and times were consequently slower than usual. The juniors raced over four laps (10 miles). Pluced juniors were: — Bert A. The Auckland amateurs staged the fifth around - the - harbour championship A strong head wind considerably retarded the times, and punctures took toll of a large number of riders. J. Price, riding strongly, made up a great deal of ground to finish first and second fastest. M. Gamble, the lono scratch rider, rode a wonderful race to annex the championship. Results: J. Price (5.30), 1, and wins the Bridgens Cup; V. Ivey (25.0), 2; V. Grey (13.0), 3; R. Cullen (19.0), 4; K. Gamble (scr), 5; S. Thompson (13.0), 6; W. Barry (5.30), 7. Times: M. Ivey (25.0), 2h 34m Bs, 7» LYNNDALE AMATEURS. The open invitation races were rather poorly supported, due, no doubt, to there being other big attractions. The Lynndale racers gave their usual support, along with A. Keith, L. Tanner and A. Matthews, the visiting riders. The usual strong wind was blowing down Titlrangl Hill, but the rain held off. Juniors were sent away at 2 p.m., 13 entering. O. Webb (3.30) took the lead in the second lap, with the .field close behind, and near the finishing line L. Johnstone, with a wonderful effort, broke away to catch Webb, and sprint him in by half a length. Results :— L. Johnstone (1.30), 28.3 1 O. Webb (3.30). 30.4 2 L. Whyle (1.30), 28.5 3 H. Alderson (scr), 54.57 3 PAPATOETOE CLUB. The Papatoetoe Cycling Club conducted two events, a junior unpaced championship over 15 miles and a 23-mile senior race over the Whitford Gorge. Results :— Championship.—J. I'lcknell, 40.55, 1; F Irvine, 41.15, 2; R. Waterman, 41.19, 3. Handicap.—F. Irvine (1.30), 41.15, 1; B. Knight (1.15) .41.3, 2; A. White (7.0), 47.6, 3. Seniors.—R. Francis (3.0), 71.42, 1; S. Pinfold (scr), 68.43, 2; C. W. Allen (1.15), 69.59, 3. Fastest time: S. Pinfold (scr), 68.43. TAKAPUNA CLUB. The Takapuna Club held two races. High winds slowed the times and made riding conditions very trying. Results: — Seniors (23 miles). —P. McCavery (6.30), 76.24, 1; A. Parker (scratch), 71.4, 2; D. Keating (1.0), 72.4 1-5, 3; S. Laurance (scratch), 71.4 J, 4. Fastest time, A. Parker. Juniors (111 miles). —T. Bassett (1.30), 33.56, 1; D. Bowsie (4.15), 36.42, 2; J. Gemmell (5.0). 37.36, 3. Fastest time, T. Bassett. BEACH HAVEN CLUB. The Beach Haven Club held its final race on Saturday for the Marris Cup over a distance of 21 miles. Road conditions were good, but head winds made riding difficult. The winner rode the whole distance unpaced to win by 645. Other results were:— L. Cooper (3.15) 65.2. 1; A. Helia (scr), 62.50 4-5, 2: J. Culpnn (sen. 62.51, 3; S. Hilder (1.45), 64.30, 4. Hclia made fastest time. Hilder and Helia tied for the cup with 4 points each. The winner will be decided by the toss of a coin at the next general meeting.
