WOMEN'S INSTITUTES.

ELLERSLIE. The monthly meeting was held at the Masonic Hall, Mrs. Budin presiding. A beaten brass work demonstration was given by four members of the Pukekohe Institute. The sponge cake competition was won by Mrs. Wyeth. Points for the flower competition were given to Mrs. Taylor. HENDERSON. At the meeting of the Henderson Women's Institute held recently a report was given by Miss E. Chilwell, on the Dominion conference. An address on tea and coffee was also given. OPAHEKE. Mr. and Mrs. M. Blanche, of Opaheke, gave a very delightful party m the Broadway Lounge this week to celebrate the coming-of-age of their daughter, Ruth. Dancing was much enjoyed by the guests. Miss Ailsa Cartwright supplied the music, extras being played by Mrs. R. Cossey, Miss V. Cossey and Mr. A. Cossey. The guest of honour, Miss Ruth Blanche, was the recipient of many handsome presents, including a gold key from her father. Amongst those present were: Mesdames H. Blanche (Opaheke), A. W. Mclvor (Drury), Hunt, Dixon (Drury), A. Cossey (Drury), R. Cossey (Drury), R- Cossey (Kaukapakapa), Herbert, Caiselaine (Waharoa), J. Quigley (Opaheke), Osborne (Opaheke), Bell (Drury), Misses R. and A. Quigley (Opaheke), P. Bundle (Drury), D. Blank. M Wall's, J. Bradley, A. Cartwright, Joyce Herbert and Joyce Francis. TAUPAKI. A basketball contest was held at Taupaki on Saturday afternoon, and in order to wind up the day's enjoyment a dance was held in the evening in the Taupaki Hall. Members of the club had spared themselves no trouble for the entertainment of their visitors, and the hall was decorated with the club colours, black and white, with festoons of greenery. The Felix Dance Band supplied -an excellent programme of the latest dance music, which included competition waltzes. The winner of the chocolate competition was Mr. P. Smith. The social committee in charge of the day's programme included: Misses H. Campbell, N. Smith, P. Smith, E. Lettica, A. Lettica, J. Foster, D. Reid, L Borich, Jean Patterson, E. Clarkson, D.J Wright, M. Cottle and 1 Cottle.
