SCHOOL CARNIVAL.

CLOSING FUNCTION AT NORTHCOTE. The coronation ceremony, tinder the direction of Miss Bettina Edwards, in the King's Theatre at Nbrthcote last week, concluded the queen carnival organised by the staff of the Nbrthcote District High School for ground improvements. The frocking of those who took part made a brilliant and spectacular setting. The queen, Miss Karen Dare-Jones, of Birkenhead, and the princesses, Miss Pat Grady, of Northcote, Miss Pat Hely, of Glenfield, and Miss June Hilder, of Birkdale, With their respective suites, acquitted themselves most creditably. The function was greatly enjoyed by the large audience, as were also the graceful minuet and folk dances by girls trained by Miss M. Hoyle and the well rendered items* by the choir, under Mrs. M. Franklin. The piano accompaniments were played by Miss L. A. Hardie. At the conclusion of the ceremony the headmaster, Mr. W. J. Wernham, 'conveyed the thanks of the staff, pupils and parents, to all who had co-operated, the sum of £154 having been banked. The satisfactory coronation function was mostly due to Miss Bettina Edwards, who had acted so successfully as mistress of ceremonies, supplemented by the efforts of Mrs. M. Franklin, Miss M. Hoyle and Miss L. A. D. Hardie. These four ladies were presented with beautiful bouquets of flowers.
