LABOUR CLUB.
FORMED AT UNIVERSITY.
A Labour Club is to be formed among the students at the Auckland University College, according to a decision reached at a meeting of students at the college last evening. Dr. R. P. Anschutz, lecturer in psychology, presided over an attendance of some 30.
After considerable discussion a provisional policy was decided on. It is based on that of the Labour Club at the University of Melbourne, and it reads: — "The Labour Club works for Socialism, recognising that economic chaos can be overcome only by substituting Socialism for Capitalism. It sees in Fascism the open enemy of Socialism, the strongest prop of the present economic system, with all its attendant evils. War is only one of them.
"The ILabour CluD recognises , that the working class is the decisive force in the fight for Socialism. It therefore supports the struggles of the working class, not only by building support for the workers in the college, but also by participating in their struggles outside the college. The club recognises that it is only through unity of action that the working class can achieve success."
As a basis tor discussion, a leaflet bearing the words, "Do you want a Labour Club at A.U.C.?" has been distributed among the students in the past few days. The following provisional committee was elected: Miss I. Cornes and Messrs. R. P. Anschutz, D. H. Monro, R. W. Lowry, G. B. Bertram. The committee will plan a campaign, and will seek affiliation with the Students' Association, and generally arrange all matters of policy. The meeting ended abruptly at 10 o'clock, when the custodian of the college announced that the lights were to be turned out in a few minutes.
